Hay Fever

One of my earliest Fall/Halloween memories is sitting, in the dark, on a wagon filled with hay. That memory often includes me with my head buried under a hoodie, my eyes shut, and hands firmly placed over my eyes.... and not because of the haunted part of the hayride. No... it was my overwhelming fear of hay stabbing my eyes out.

"Where did you develop such a bizarre fear," you ask.

Well really I counter with, why is it necessary to throw the hay? Like what is the fun in that???..... Unless of course you take pleasure in possibly stabbing someone's eyes out with the hay.

Hay is dirty. You shouldn't even want to touch it, let alone throw it.

This is NOT something you would ever see me do. In addition to not throwing the hay, I most certainly would not be looking up as it all comes raining down on me.

Really who would do that?...

It's just ridiculous....

How much was she paid to pretend throwing hay is a fun and enjoyable pass time?

Yes I'm sure this girl was just hiking along.. enjoying nature... when suddenly, unable to contain her excitement any longer, she grabs a pile of hay and throws it in the air. Get real.

So yea... I'm totally afraid of hay and its possible contact with my eyes. For this same reason I will not participate in any activities involving cornfields.

I read a short story once about a boy who went blind after accidentally tripping and stabbing his eyes out with ears of corn, while playing in a cornfield with his brother. Turns out it wasn't an accident... the brother did it on purpose. The story ends with the big reveal taking place between the two brothers in the middle of the cornfield.

Enough said....
